Toronto EMS Shari's Mission Shari Ichelson Silverman, sister to Toronto EMS Paramedic Rob Ichelson, is a 34 year-old mother of 11 year-old Ashley-Ann. Throughout June Shari didn't feel well. Numerous doctors made wildly wrong diagnoses. Shari collapsed and was transported to York Central Hospital by ambulance. They thought she was dehydrated. SARS, CBRN, FRI, H1N1. Paramedic acronyms that have become all too familiar.

But who is directing paramedic safety advancement? Workers. Employers. Base Hospitals. Government. Committees.

No one really knows. Paramedics ask for it. Employers pay for it. Base Hospitals create the policies for it. Government makes the laws for it. Committees decide it.

Unfortunately, its the end results that are making the changes. Endless injuries. Line of Duty Deaths.

Yet, no comprehensive Paramedic injury, illness or death exist statistics in Canada or Ontario.

Changes are Reactive not Proactive.
