Jeff McLean was an Advanced Care Paramedic with 20 years of service to the residents of Durham Region and had been a valued member of Durham Region Emergency Medical Services since its inception on January 1, 2000.
Jeff was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2006 and given an encouraging prospect of survival. After surgery Jeff endured Chemotherapy and Radiation therapy.
The cancer appeared to be gone. Jeff returned to work in the spring of 2007 but cancer was again found in his lungs and he underwent more surgery in the summer. Jeff returned to work in the fall of 2007 and while taking care of a patient, his arm became paralyzed. Within several days Jeff was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given 6 to 8 weeks to live.
Jeff lost his courageous battle and died on December 18, 2007. He was married and had 2 children.
